Once again, apologies for the length of this all - this page ends the early email exchanges. It is necessary to present things as fully as possible - the better to help you decide whether it comes over as OK or not. Stand by for the real kicker!

Chris,
Just an update.
The owner has supposedly been out of town. I have been calling every day
and physically in the store at least every other day. He is usually there
on Saturdays but hasn't shown up for the past two. I am drafting a letter
to present to him demanding a full cash refund.
I have some serious automotive and medical bills here and I desperately
need my money back.
I am both desperate and disgusted.
I'll let you know as soon as I learn something new..
Bear

Hi Bear,
Thx for update - I had been wondering (of course!) but tried not to hassle you. Sounds like very much a bang-head-on-wall deal .... and yeah ... it is getting rather disgusting. Having damn bills to pay and money tied up with nothing to show for it is a pisser.
I just hope perseverence will pay off ... as with passing of time it also gets ever more worrying. I don't know how much you are out right now but for sure, my $1750 is no small potatoes.
Just do what you can ... and keep me up to speed eh.
Chris

Chris,
Well things just went from bad to worse.
My car payment was killing me. So when I got my tax refund, I sold my
Wrangler for just a little over what I owed on it and bought a 1991 Jeep
Cherokee in great condition. Except I broke a front u-joint driving down
the highway a few weeks ago. So in addition to a $150 tow bill, I just
shelled out over $900 the first of the month to get both of them replaced
along with front brakes. Losing a u-joint at 60mph can play hell with a
caliper and rotor.
I went out this afternoon to go to the store and it's gone. The Police just
left. My insurance was liability only. No theft. I was going to upgrade
when I got the Contender money back.
Looks like I'll be busing it for a while. The shop is on the main bus line
right between two stops so I will really be pushing this bastard now.
It's always something,
Bear

Thus begins the bombshell - with more coming up very soon. Are you beginning to smell an odor of fish at all? I was, but remained I consider pretty polite and tried to be understanding. Don't wish problems on anyone.

Bear,
Holy crap ... is Murphy out to draw blood or what! Geez .... this is terrible. Well, I just hope very much that something can be sorted ... in particular now because of your predicament.
As you so rightly say - ''always something'' but .... this seems like nightmare stuff. Do what you can ... this needs resolved for the both of us.

Chris,
I have a huge problem here. I got the refund yesterday minus the amount I
paid for the Colt
Commander. That is still there but it is on sale on consignment. I need to
work out a payment plan to get you your money back.
Hopefully you saw the notice in my signature last week about my car being
stolen.
It was stolen on Sunday and recovered on Tuesday but I wasn't notified
until Wednesday.
It was stolen from my parking space here in Edmonds and recovered in
Everett about 15 miles away. The Edmonds police entered it in the NCIC
computer as a "Do Not Impound", since I have a friend with a car trailer.
It seems that Everett ignored that and impounded it anyway.
I finally got it out this morning. The towing and storage fee for a week
totalled slightly over $900.
They only broke out one small rear door window. It'll only cost me $160 to
replace it! (That's after the $20 discount for taking it to Glass Doctor
instead of having them come to me.)
They also broke the drivers side mirror. That's only $25.
(They are giving me a free rock chop repair on the windshield though.
YippeeSkip.)
I had 4 nearly new Goodyear Wrangler tires on the stock Jeep rims. They
took them all.
They removed the front license plate and mounting bracket. But they left
the rear one that I had just renewed exactly one week before.
They stole the Alpine stereo and CD changer. They took the front two
speakers but didn't get the rear two in the tailgate.
They stole the battery and the front passenger seat.
They removed my Draw-Tite trailer hitch receiver.
And they took out the entire rear driveshaft!!! Cheapest I have found so
far is a used one for $150.
I haven't got an exact price on installation yet since it will probably
have to be re-balanced.
So I'm going to start buying parts tomorrow.
It'll be a while before I get another stereo or trailer hitch. I can live
without those.
I am going for the cheapest tires and rims I can find.
I think whoever stole it was spooked before they were done.
My apartment manager is letting me park in the parking space of an empty
apartment so I can see it better. I am just hoping they don't come back and
finish the job.
So the bottom line is that right now I don't have the money to send back to
you.
I don't want to ruin our friendship. I hope you can understand and allow me
to work this out.
Sincerely,
Bear

So - without a by-your-leave, my money has gone to bail out the problem!! OK - not pleased but ever hopeful for some eventual resolution - call me Mr Patient as well as Mr Sympathetic. Wonder what you the reader are thinking now?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bear,
Well ... it sure seems you've been dealt some shit .. and I can sympathise. I also hope things will resolve and improve.
In effect then, what is now extant is - I have loaned you some funds ... seems that is what it boils down to. In the short term I am happy to help ... I guess if my part of the funds was not there then things would be even worse for you. Seems tho too .. I have little choice in the matter!!
Main concern is ..... what actually happens as an outcome. Will I see my money back? It's a large chunk of cash to me .. and by that token too - a large chunk of cash for you to repay me. I had planned originally to put that to buying my half of the Contender stuff and then moving some of it on for a return ... not intending to burn an entire $1.75k just on self indulgence!!
So - I am still out by that amount and zilch to show for it. You'll appreciate I am sure that whatever way you look at it - this ain't pocket money!! I guess what I need is some sorta plan ... something whereby I can see that I am not gonna be having to write this off .... I cannot afford to do that, even if I do spend quite a bit on guns. At least if I have a gun in return for an outlay - I have in a sense got a ''redeemable asset''.
With this situation I am, quite simply ... OUT by this large amount. So - well - just please if you can give me some sorta ideas what you think might be the outcome here. I've been without this money now about 6 months ...... what sorta time frame might we be lookin at? I'm not trying to exert any pressure - I want you to get straight but - as I hope you'll also understand .. it's not something I can turn my back on. fair enough?
Do tho please - keep me up to speed.
Chris
Chris,
YES! You will get paid back. Every penny and then some.
You have no idea how embarrassing this situation is for me.
I am filing a reimbursement request with the City of Everett Police Department.
I have been told that since it was not a traffic hazard and it had been
properly entered into the NCIC database as a "do not impound" that I have
about a 100% chance of my money being refunded. What no one can tell me
however is how long that will take. That money, as soon as it's refunded
will be coming straight to you.
I have an appointment this Sunday with a mechanic friend of mine who works
for Firestone. He's going to look and see what exactly is needed to repair
the drivetrain. After I figure out how much that will cost I'll have a
better idea of where I stand financially.
Right now things are a mess here and I really hate to have to anyone even
know about it, much less get them involved. I will work very hard to get
everything straightened out here.
Bless you for your understanding, Chris. You have no idea how much it means
to me right now.
Still seems genuine - and on that take, sympathize with circumstances but note ... "you WILL get your money back"! Remember - this is four years ago! Still however finding it hard to totally believe - not helped by comm's vacuum coming up. We make a change to Forums PM as he closed his email account - then we switch in full to the PM content pages.
Bear,
Near a month has passed. I'm a tad disappointed to have had no feedback in that time ... doesn't really seem very fair! I am trying to be patient .... otherwise I'd be hassling every week! I am not trying to pressure .. but sure would be good to be kept up to speed ya know!
Re: ''Things''
Chris,
Changed e-mail. I had my cable shut off to save the money.
I am still waiting and writing letters to try and recover my tow/storage charges. I may jave to get a lawyer to speed things up.
I still haven't gotten my Jeep repaired.
And on top of everything I was laid-off last Friday. The TV station I was working for was just bought out by a bigger station and they are moving all of their operations into the parent company building and using most of the parent company employees. Since I was contract labor, I have to wait 60 days before I can draw any unemployment benefits. So I spent the weekend working on my resume and the past two days sending them out. I have been too busy to even check THR.
I hate job interviews I'd rather visit the dentist..
I'm back online now and but will only be on in the wee hours since during the day I need the phone free.
Everything happens for a reason. I needed to find a better job anyway. But some advanced warning would have been nice.
Don't give up, I'm not.
This is getting close to communications drying up for a long spell - but the main event that came next was a supposed severe fall with serious injuries - July 2004 as best remembered.
We'll finish this page and move on to a page of further information as a sort of interim catch-up on where things were by then..... after which some later communications will be added in PM content pages - sorry, all five of them!
